On 26th May 1997 the Report of the National Inquiry into the
Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children
from their families was tabled in Federal Parliament. The
Bringing Them Home Report, revealed the extent of forced
removal policies, which went on for 150 years into the early

conversation and to think about how we can help turn around

Mabo Day celebrates the historic High Court win on 3 June
1992 by Eddie Koiki Mabo on behalf of the Meriam people of
Mer Island in the Torres Strait - which overturned the
doctrine of 'terra nullius' and led to the recognition of
native title rights.
